When I travel, I love looking in the shop windows. I like to see what is popular in other countries. Years ago, when I worked in retail, I often created the store window displays. I enjoyed that part of the job a lot so it is fun to observe the creation of other window display artists. Our latest trip to Europe had many great window displays that I would like to share with you. The pictures are not always the best as shooting through glass has its limits. (далее…)

Eating Our Way Through Europe
My husband thinks it is amusing that I take pictures of the food we eat while travelling. But I find it is part of the good memories. And we ate some great food on the latest trip to Europe.
The first fabulous meal was at Cafe Opera in Altea, Spain. I had been to Cafe Opera once 8 years ago. Both experiences have been wonderful and I was pleased to see it had not changed. (далее…)

Tea for Two
I had long since given up hope of being invited to tea at Buckingham Palace but recently I had an opportunity to do the next best thing – enjoy tea at The Empress Hotel in Victoria BC. The majestic Fairmont Empress Hotel, a landmark in Victoria, has been serving its renowned afternoon tea for over one hundred years to royalty, famous and not so well known individuals. I belong to the later. (далее…)

Amanda’s adventure in Spain
??
My husband’s parents retired to Spain from England a few years ago. This gives us a wonderful holiday destination. I have had the opportunity to visit them in this sunny country three times already and each time explored different parts of the country. I must admit I love Spain very much. So much that I decided to write a second book with the same character as my first book. (далее…)

The Painted Boat
I was fortunate enough to win an over night stay at The Painted Boat Resort in Pender Harbour on the beautiful sunshine coast of British Columbia. My husband and I chose to spend our time at this lovely spot set amongst the fir trees, during the recent Thanksgiving weekend.
It was a wonderful get-away in a perfect setting. (далее…)

Up in the Air!
For many years I have dreamed of going up in the air in a hot air balloon. My husband so kindly gave me a gift certificate for a hot air balloon ride for my birthday and on June 5 of this year, my dream was realized. The experience was amazing. Once the balloonist decided the weather was suitable for flying, we all assisted in taking the balloon out of its large duffle bag and unraveling it. (далее…)

Gabriola Island Escape
I live on the west coast of BC and am lucky to have a daughter living near Gabriola Island. This means I can visit this gem in the Gulf Islands when ever I can get away. The island is populated by about 5000 of the most down to earth, friendly people you will ever meet. There are many artists who have made their home in this out of the way paradise; as well as retired professionals and individuals who just want to live a more peaceful lifestyle. (далее…)

Olympic Fever Final
Well the Olympic flame has been extinguished but the fire inside all of us will burn for a long time. There is such a feeling of happiness and so much positive energy in the city right now. There are so many wonderful stories but the best thing that I experienced was a sky train full of people singing Oh Canada as we were heading downtown the final day. (далее…)

Olympic Fever 2
Things are very exciting here on the west coast of British Columbia. You don’t have to be at the Olympic events to feel the energy and camaraderie. This weekend I went downtown just to feel part of it all. I had a good look at the Olympic flame which was inspirational. The whole of downtown is decorated for the Olympics and everyone is wearing a big smile. I love hearing all the different languages being spoken and everyone wearing their county’s logos. (далее…)

Olympic Fever – It’s Catchy
I live on the west coast of Canada about 30 kilometres south of the City of Vancouver in a small community called Tsawwassen and I work 10 kilometres away in another small community called Ladner. I am not real close to the Olympic sites, but I am caught up in the excitement and proud that we are hosting these special games. We will not be attending any of the events but will be watching them on television like most of the world. (далее…)

Colourful Dancers and Playful Monkeys
I guess by now you realize that I love to travel. One of my goals is to see as much of the world as possible. My husband, Paul, and I just returned from a wonderful cruise to the Western Caribbean. The ship left from Miami, Florida and our ports of call took us to places we had never been to before; Cozumel, Belize, Grand Cayman and Isla Roatan, Honduras. We enjoyed every stop but our favourite was Isla Roatan. (далее…)

Darlene and Sheila’s Spanish Adventure
Sheila and I have been good friends for many years and often plan to meet in interesting places. Two years ago we decided to meet in Spain where we participated in a program called Pueblo Ingles. We spent eight days at a luxury resort in a remote little visited region and had the opportunity to experience the real Spain. All we had to do to enjoy this marvellous place, at no cost, was speak English all day to Spanish speaking professionals who wished to improve their communication English. It was a wonderful experience. (далее…)

Hi, I am Darlene!
Like many of you who read this blog, I love to travel. As a child growing up on a ranch on the Canadian prairies, I often dreamt of traveling to interesting places. I have been fortunate as an adult to have been able to do some traveling to places such as the Caribbean, Mexico, Hawaii, England, Spain, Alaska and various parts of Canada and the United States. But when I was invited by Don and Sheila MacArthur to visit them while they were working in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), I was in for a trip of a lifetime. (далее…)
